MOTR Preview 27/08/22

SATURDAY

USC Lion v Old Ignatians

USC Lion have kept their season alive with last week’s nail-biting 5-4 win over Adelaide Red Blue Eagles. Unfortunately for Lion, two of their next three games are against Iggies and Jets who are both gunning for the title. Nonetheless, Lion will be confident they can build off last week’s win and stun Iggies in what would be a famous win.

Their opponents, however, have a title to play for and after last week’s disappointing loss to Jets – Iggies will be looking to make things right at the expense of USC Lion. Iggies will have to pick themselves up and dust themselves off, as the title is still in their hands. Knowing Jets face off against MA Hawks, Iggies will know that goals will be of huge importance this weekend. Within their ranks, there is class everywhere. Anthony Orlando, Julian Titaro and Nick Penta have been causing headaches for opposition defenders all season and will be looking to provide for their team when it really counts.

Two teams, two different narratives, one common goal - win this game at all costs.

SUNDAY

Once again, Elizabeth Downs find themselves on centre stage as they prepare to take on third-placed Tea Tree Gully. In last week’s Match of the Round Fixture against Parafield Gardens, they were dominant – with Josh Farrell’s hat-trick spearheading the 4-0 win. Confidence will be high, but they know that the Gully are a brilliant team in their own right.

Tea Tree Gully made light work of Para Hills East, which is not an easy thing to do. A brace from Anfiteatro, and goals from Williams, Evans and Hamsory rounded off the resounding victory, and keeps the Gully within touching distance of the top two.

The last time these to faced off was in Round 7, and it was a narrow 3-2 triumph for the Downs. Billy Allotey and Rhys Devlin were on target for the home side, whilst goals from Sean McGreevy, Liam Edwards and Sam Watson got the away side over the line.

Downs’ destiny is in their hands, and a famous win at Argana Park this week could be enough to seal the title.
